Getting Ready for Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period. The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) for Medicare starts four weeks early from October 15 – December 7. During this period you can change from Original Medicare (Medicare Parts A and B) to a Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) plan as well as purchase a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to complement your Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage coverage. After December 7, the enrollment period closes. Except in certain cases, changes are not allowed again until next year’s AEP, so it’s a good idea to write these important dates on your calendar and begin planning now. Dear Friend,

WELCOME TO LOTSA COMMUNITY WORKS

Featured this month:

Autumn is upon us and in many parts of the country that means the leaves are changing to shades of orange and yellow. During the month of October, however, we also see a lot of pink. For good reason. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness about breast cancer detection and treatment. According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, about 200,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States this year and nearly 40,000 women will die from the disease this year. A diagnosis of breast cancer is devastating to families and can put a lot of pressure on the caregiver to not only manage other household duties during treatment but also organize offers of help. That's where Lotsa Helping Hands comes in.

At Lotsa Helping Hands, we have witnessed more than 150,000 volunteers participating in communities of support for people with breast cancer and their caregivers. Volunteers contribute in so many meaningful ways—delivering warm meals, raising money for expenses, and setting up play dates for children in the home to continue a sense of normalcy during tough times. We receive regular testimonials from families touched by breast cancer who use our service. They often express not only their gratitude but their amazement at the number of people offering to help. This month, we are inviting those of you in our larger Lotsa community to share your story here..

  • Are you a caregiver for someone coping with breast cancer?
  • Are you living with breast cancer and benefiting from a support community?
  • Are you a dedicated volunteer helping out a friend or loved one?
Share your story here.

Read on for tips and features about our coordination service and updates about our Getting Started Webinar Series.

This month, all of us at Lotsa Helping Hands salute those of you who are fighting the fight against breast cancer.

     From our community to yours,

          Hal Chapel, Co-Founder & CEO

LOTSA TIPS AND FEATURES

We have several tips to share this month – remember, you can always visit our How it Works Page for ideas on how to get the most out of your caregiving or volunteer coordination community.
  1. Create Custom Sections: Depending on your situation, you may want to create several special custom sections for your community. You can post dietary restrictions for the family, notes on what to expect as a volunteer, a personal blog, and more. Visit the 'Administration' tab and follow the Sections, Announcements, and Emails link to create your personalized section. Give it a title and description; customize your permissions, and start sharing. You can even use your new section as your Home Page Highlight (rather than the default summary Calendar display) to give your members quick access to what matters most.

  2. Share Your Support with Well Wishes: Perhaps you don't have time to give a ride or make a meal but you want to stay involved with your friend or loved one. You can share messages of support with your community by posting in the Well Wishes section found on your community home page. You can leave a message, reply to other Members' posts, and easily let someone know you're thinking about them during tough times.

  3. Store Important Information: Have you used the Vital Information section yet at Lotsa Helping Hands? This section allows for Coordinators to safely store and retrieve vital information to the family—from medical and health records to financial and legal documents, even the family's favorite hobbies and preferences. You can make this information available, either to the entire community, or to select members—such as the immediate family.

If you have additional questions, contact us at info@lotsahelpinghands.com.
